Statement of loss of property, 1862 March 8.

Statement attributed to Winborn Wallace Lawton concerns the loss in August 1861 of two slaves, named Paris and William, who escaped from Lawton's James Island, S.C. plantation near Charleston, S.C. Lawton states that an article from the New York Herald leads him to believe that they were picked up by Union troops off the Charleston bar.
